    Always enjoy the Reacher stories, but this one was definitely on the short side. Child could have fleshed this out I believe. Perhaps edits were too aggressive.

    A good Jack Reacher novel. Offers some nice back story to Jack’s family past. Not quite what I would have wanted this time around. Would really like to see another book that focuses on Jack’s military service. Maybe something from his early days in the service. Any book on Jack is good but the back story always seems to be best.

    I am not really sure what to make of this book, I have read all of the Reacher books, this one was interesting on the genealogy front more so than the action front, I knew exactly what was going to happen to Patty & Shorty, nothing was surprising there at all. And I knew it as soon as they appeared very formulaic, it’s been done before nothing new here. Overall not very exciting.

    Oh boy! “A new Jack Reacher,” I thought at midnight on November fourth. It took me almost three days to finish. Had to work. This tale is one of the better of the series. I wondered what’s going to happen to Patty and Shorty from early on, and how is Reacher involved. Child kept the suspense up through the whole book. Midway through, he wrote in some amusing almost-but-not-quite character collisions. Since we know Reacher never loses, suspense relies on the peril of others, and Past Tense delivers in spades.
