Advantages of Being a Stand-up Comedian
When regular people are at work, I am sitting in a crowded cafe, hiding the fact that my laptop sitting on the table in front of me has been hibernating for the past hour. I’m using it as an excuse to observe people and gain inspiration for new material while not looking as creepy. One of the perks of the job is freedom to do anything I want and go anywhere I like as long as I make people laugh, which is something that comes naturally. Naturally, of course, is a term I use loosely because I still have to make the effort of thinking up comical scenarios for otherwise bland happenings. I always blend truth into my work, which means I have to get right out there where the action is going on. What better place than a cafe where I get free muffins because I’ve done a few shows when their jazz band cancels? I am definitely recognized here all too often, which is great when I need an ego boost at the end of a particularly stressful day when the crowds are rough. My mother would suggest doing yoga, however, I am not as flexible as I look. I have to write that down.
