How to Become a Professional Stand-up Comedian
If you think you have what it takes to go from class clown to stand up comedian, there’s a few things you need to do before you make the jump. Just like any other occupation, being prepared is key. Not only do you have to be funny, but you need to have a routine memorized and you need to be confident about it. You want people to laugh at your jokes, not at you because you stumbled through your routine. Study other stand up comedians, watch their body language and pay attention to the delivery of their jokes. Having good delivery is the key to a succesful joke. We all have that one funny friend that no matter what he says, we laugh. He has that humorous persona. No matter how funny your material is, if it’s not delivered right, it will flop. Once you’re confident enough in your routine, try to book yourself at a local comedy club on amateur night. The best way to prepare for this is to memorize your routine until you can recite it in your sleep. After that, it’s all up to you continuing to get yourself out there and fine tuning your stand-up.
